It's almost the weekend! And you know what that means, time to get planning and maximize your time! The sun is shining and everyone is emerging ready to enjoy their days off, so get reading this Chicago Weekend Guide and book ahead! With everyone coming out of hibernation, things are sure to book up!

FRIDAY

Midsummer Night's Dream opening weekend with the Joffrey Ballet. Be among the first to experience this dreamy performance! The show is a joyful fantasy celebrating the summer solstice. And, with tickets starting at only $34, its very accessible! Curtain goes up at 7:30 PM.

Toast to Toscana at Eataly. Be transported to Central Italy while you stroll through the second level marketplace of Eataly. With 12 wines and samplings of traditional Tuscan foods, meats and cheeses, you'll leave satiated and get to practice your Italian! (Just remember the words grazie and prego and you're good) Reservations are $60 and there are two timings 6-8 or 7:30-9:30.

Spring Lantern Festival at hosted by the Taiwanese American Student association at U Chicago. Going to a lantern festival has been on my list for a long time, and for some reason or another, I've just never made it. The students are welcoming all to come to their lantern release at the Botany Pond from 7-8 PM. They are hosting several events throughout the week for students to write on their lantern and I'm sure they'd welcome you to those as well. The festival is free, and for those of us who just want to watch, I'd say that's a great deal since most places charge upwards of $50 to participate.

SATURDAY

Movement on Monroe- street fest season is upon us and Live Grit is introducing a new kind of street festival  focused on health and fitness! Mosey on over the the West Loop and drop in on so many different finds of activities! From running to barre, to yoga, to bootcamp, there's a little bit of everything to get you up and going. Like all street fests should, there'll be food, drinks, music, and gear for sale as well. Entry is free with RSVP on the website. Event runs from 10-3

Randolph Street Market: Artsy Fartsy. I love vintage and sustainable purchasing- this goes for art and decor as well! This weekend's Randolf Street Market is themed around art, so come and get some new pieces to display on your walls without increasing your carbon footprint! The location is so easy to get to and even though its art themed they'll always have a range of vintage and handmade goods (make a beeline for the handmade scented candles, they go fast!). The Market is open both Saturday and Sunday from 10-5.

Spring Tea and Silent Auction with City Lit Theater. This is City Lit's annual fundraiser. High Tea is one of my favorite ways to spend an afternoon! This ticket includes high tea with all the trimmings, a private reading of Louisa May Alcott's novel, and silent auction. It's being hosted at Edgewater Beach Cafe, and at $30 per ticket its a steal for such a unique high tea experience! The event runs from 2-4 PM.

SUNDAY

From Beavers to Brickyards: Tour of Albany Park. Join Chicago for Chicagoans on this walking tour exploring the history of the Albany Park Neighborhood! You'll learn little tidbits along the way, get in a bit of light exercise in the fresh air, and end the tour at Marie's Pizza and Liquors! The tour is free, and participants are encouraged to stay and mingle over a slice at Marie's afterward (meal not included). Tour runs from 11-1:30.

Degenerate Art at Spertus Institute. Groundbreaking art has a long history of being labeled as degenerate and censored from public enjoyment. The Fifth Ensemble will be showcasing that history with musical pieces oppressed under three regimes- Nazi Germany, Soviet Russia, and from right here in the US, McCarthyism. There will be a discussion panel on censorship, human rights and freedom of expression following the performance. Tickets are $20 and the event is from 2-4 PM.

Surf, Suds, and Glow at Studios Fuse. Enjoy a Sunday night fitness party at Studios Fuse! If you haven't checked out this gorgeous and innovative fitness coop space yet, read my post on it here. Your ticket will give you entry to a Surf Blend Sampler at Hang 5 Fitness, a Glow in the Dark Yoga Class at Yoga Space, and a Craft Brew Swag Bag! An industry expert will be on had giving talks on how to properly taste a craft brew, the top breweries in Chicago, and all about the brewing process. The event is from 6-7:30 and tickets are $28 (special "entourage" pricing for groups).
